Sobriety
Today marks 2 weeks of sobriety for me. It may not seem like a long time, but for someone who has been fighting a drug addiction or alcohol addiction, 2 weeks feels like forever. As a person with an addiction, you never really realize how much you and your body relies on drugs or alcohol to keep you balanced, you never realize how bad your anxiety and depression is until you’ve faced them sober. Like James Baldwin said, "Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced."
Anxiety and Depression can be changed, but only when we face them. They can be controlled only when we decide that we want to make a change. When we decide that our old ways of coping just aren’t as healthy as we thought. When we realize that the only way we can change things in our lives is if we face them. I challenge you to step out of your old habits, I challenge you to face your challenges and break free from what’s holding you back. And when you see those challenges face to face, you’ll realize that they weren’t that challenging in the first place.
